The stage has been set for the 58th Presidential Cycling Tour in Turkey which takes place between the  8th and 15th of October with the journey beginning in Alanya and ending in Istanbul.

The tour was planned to be held earlier in the year, but due to the disastrous earthquakes in the south-east the event had to be postponed. Alternations have had to be made to the route for both the second and third stages of the tour.

Those taking part will be able to experience Turkey’s natural beauty and its most historic sites.

Back in 1963 the tour was known as the Marmara Tour. By 1966 the event found international acclaim and since 1968 it has been under the Presidency and the Ministry of Youth and Sports organisation.

The event is set to a host a total of 24 cycling teams each with 7 cyclists.  There will be live coverage of the tour on land and in the skies via helicopters and will be aired on national and international channels over the 8 day period.

The President of the Turkey Cycling Federation Emin Muftuoglu stated “With our board of directors and technical team, we are determined to host this event with immense enthusiasm and grandeur in the republic’s 100th year. The tour, renowned for its intense competition and breath-taking route, is poised to transform into an intercontinental cycling gala. The heart of professional road cycling will beat strongly in Turkey.”
