Türkiye’s Cruise Industry is on course to exceed their target of 1.5m passengers this year as tourists have flocked to the popular holiday resorts of Bodrum, Antalya and Kusadasi. The numerous ships which have docked in recent days, have bought the total amount of arrivals to just over 906,000 many of which have travelled from the US and UK.

Between January and August of this year, 719 cruises have come into Turkish Ports from a range of Cruise companies including the likes of Celebrity Cruises, Holland-America, Norwegian and MSC Cruise lines.

Not only has the industry bounced back strongly after it was pretty much ‘wiped out’ during the Covid era, but it is growing substantially as people take advantage of the on-board options, which can sometimes work out more cost effective than a traditional holiday, especially when it means you can visit multiple destinations in one trip. Add to that the family-friendly entertainment, multitude of facilities/amenities and inclusive dining, and you have a win-win situation.

The latest situation in Israel/Palestine has also benefitted Turkish Ports with many of the Cruise lines amending their tours to avoid sailing into the Israeli ports of Haifa and Ashod, and though only a temporary measure, many itineraries have now been modified to include Alanya, Marmaris and Kusadasi. It’s expected that around 30,000 extra passengers will arrive in Turkiye during the remaining weeks in October/November as their original routes were cancelled.

Bodrum continues to benefit greatly from the Cruise Industry, which is now responsible for a significant amount of revenue to it’s local GDP. The ‘Serena’ and ‘Resilient Lady’ were just of the ships that arrived recently, bringing with them a total of 2,741 tourists mainly from the US and UK.
