Istanbul Park will be back in 2027 on the Formula One schedule. From 2027 to 2031, Istanbul Park will host five seasons of high-profile races. After a six-year break, the Turkish Grand Prix will resume, rekindling interest in motorsports in Turkey. Erdogan claims the cooperation with Formula 1 will be strengthened.
Istanbul Park to host the races
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, declared that Istanbul Park will hold prestigious races for five seasons, from 2027 to 2031.
Speaking at a celebration of Formula 1’s return to Turkey at the Dolmabahce Presidential Office in Istanbul, Erdogan stated that Istanbul Park will offer exciting, top-notch races with fantastic viewership for five complete seasons.
The president emphasized that he believes Turkey, “a country of motorsports,” would continue to grow its relationship with Formula 1 in the years to come.
Erdogan stated that Formula 1 has a sizable and fervent fan base in Turkey across all age groups, especially among young people, and that it is one of the top athletic events in the world.
According to him, millions of people in the nation watched the races, and about 7.5 million people followed them on social media.
“We hosted Formula 1 nine times in total: two more during the COVID term in 2020 and 2021, and seven races between 2005 and 2011. More than 110,000 people attended the first race in 2005, shattering a record set during the Republic, he said.
Erdogan continued by saying that Istanbul Park has become one of Formula 1’s most prestigious tracks thanks to legendary races, memorable moments, and record-breaking performances.
He cited the fact that Turkey welcomed Formula 1 during the pandemic, when many other events were cancelled, as evidence of the nation’s dedication to racing.
He brought up the 2020 race in which Lewis Hamilton, a Mercedes driver at the time, tied Michael Schumacher’s record of seven Formula One world titles. He claimed that the race was repeated again the next year with enthusiastic spectators.
According to him, the return of Formula 1 in 2027 will significantly increase the championship’s value and demonstrate the world’s great faith in the nation’s potential.
Burhanettin Duran, the director of communications for Turkey, celebrated the occasion with a post on the Turkish social media site NSosyal.
“Türkiye is achieving yet another major success under Erdogan’s leadership,” he stated. Turkey’s power in international sports diplomacy will be strengthened by this massive event, which will once again highlight Istanbul’s distinct cultural diversity and our nation’s growing brand value to the world, according to Duran.
After a six-year break, Formula 1 is back
After a six-year hiatus, Formula 1 will make a comeback to Turkey with the Turkish Grand Prix scheduled for 2027. Next year, Istanbul Park will hold a Formula 1 race for the tenth occasion, having previously hosted events from 2005 to 2011 and from 2020 to 2021.
As the 5.3-kilometer (3.3-mile) circuit in Istanbul gets ready to welcome the sound of the revving F1 engines once more, the return will put an end to a lengthy wait for fans.
Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Juan Pablo Montoya, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas, Max Verstappen, and Sergio Perez were among the twelve drivers that finished on the podium in the nine races hosted at Istanbul Park.
