Kyrenia is a beach resort and a market hub. A castle stronghold from the 12th century stands on either side of its horseshoe-shaped harbour. The remnants of a ship from around 300 BC, which was found in 1969 around 0.5 miles (0.8 km) offshore, are kept safe in the castle.

The lovely village of Bellapais and its majestic 13th-century Abbey are situated on a natural terrace in the verdant Five Finger Mountains that rise south of Kyrenia. The French phrase “belle paix,” which means “beautiful peace,” is where the term Bellapais originates. Bellapais Abbey, a stunning example of monastic Gothic architecture situated high on the mountainside.
