Track tests to be done on Turkey’s high speed train

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu disclosed in a written statement that in 2025 Turkey’s first national high speed train will be undergoing track tests with trials following afterwards.

The train is being manufactured by the Turkish Railway Vehicles Industries Inc (TURASAS) and is collaborating with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Rail Transportation Technologies Institute.

Urakoglu stated that the train will have eight cars with the capacity to host 584 passengers and will be able to reach speeds of 139.8 mph. State of the art technology will be used in the trains design.

Urakoglu stated that “Our investments in transportation and infrastructure continue to bear fruit. Turkey has now emerged as a country that designs, produces and develops railway technology.”

He went on to say that “We began passenger services with our national electric train sets on May 27, 2023, and now we are advancing with our national high speed train.”

By the last quarter of 2024 the design phase of the train should be completed. The next phase that follows is assembly.
