Citing industry data, Sabiha Gökçen Airport announced Wednesday that it had the second-highest rise in passenger volume in Europe during the first two months of this year when compared to the same period last year.
According to the ACI EUROPE February 2025 Air Traffic Report!, Sabiha Gökçen Airport was rated second in Europe among major airports (those with a passenger capacity of over 40 million) for the increase in passenger volume from January to February 2025 compared to January to February 2024, the airport said in a statement. Sabiha Gökçen placed eighth in the European Airport Market and among the top 10 airports in terms of passenger traffic, with an 8.7% growth volume from January to February.
Over 450 airport members of ACI EUROPE, who account for more than 95% of all airport traffic in Europe, contribute statistics to the monthly “Airport Traffic Report,” which is published by Airports Council International (ACI) Europe. “Based on passenger volume, Sabiha Gökçen proudly stands as the 8th busiest airport in Europe for both February 2025 and the January-February 2025 period.”
Located on Istanbul’s Anatolian side, Sabiha Gökçen Airport is the nation’s second-largest and second-busiest airport, trailing only Istanbul Airport. In addition to plans for a second terminal at the air hub, the airport has seen a substantial increase in passenger volume after the second runway was expanded and opened last year.
In contrast, Istanbul Airport ranked second in February’s top 10 airports by passenger traffic, ahead of Paris Charles de Gaulle and behind London Heathrow, according to the ACI Europe survey.
