This year from January to October, Turkey welcomed nearly 1.8 million cruise passengers to its ports and increase of nearly 27% on the same period last year. A total of 1,112 cruise ships arrived.
The tourism sector is a vital part of the economic and social development of the Country, so the government is working hard to increase and improve this sector. Our ports are equally as important promoting tourism and cultural riches to a worldwide audience.
The southwestern port of Kusadasi received a total of 501 cruise ships in this period, welcoming nearly 800,000 visitors to its shores becoming the busiest port in Turkey.
Istanbul still proves a popular cruise destination receiving over 400,000 passengers so far this year, Izmir again in the south west came in third.
Whilst the smaller port of Bodrum welcomed a further 92 ships and around 153,000 passengers.
The southwestern locations of Turkey have so much to offer, these numbers just cement the area on the tourist map, and is also one of the reasons the location is popular for foreigners to purchase in, it’s not just about sun, sea and beaches, but culture and heritage of Turkey.
