When a town like Bodrum becomes popular with locals, and citizens of the country start migrating there in large numbers, then you know it’s the People’s Choice and a good place in which to invest & enjoy the rich cultural lifestyle which will undoubtedly be instilled in next to no time by the migration.
That’s what happening in the beautiful town of Bodrum right now, as those who have previously resided in Istanbul are now flocking to the coastal resort mainly due to the remote working affect that the pandemic had on the population & employers in general. Migration from Istanbul to Bodrum happened about eight years ago as further urban expansion works started to take hold, but there was a recent second migration during the pandemic and a third wave is already underway given the severity of the earthquakes earlier this year.
Now being described as a ‘Little Istanbul’ the most preferred areas for locals are of course those which are easily connected to the essential amenities like hospitals, shopping centres and schools, with those neighbourhoods being Ortakent, Konacık, Bitez and Yahşi.
Already rather popular with remote workers, freelancers, architects, advertisers, writers and telesales individuals, there are more retirees also settling on Bodrum given that property here is a far more affordable option than Istanbul. For the rental price of a two bed flat in the City, you could get a detached house in Bodrum – with space for the family when they come to visit! Add in all the extras of being in a modern, metropolitan resort town & ask why wouldn’t you choose to come here?
Levent Ercan is a Real Estate Consultant in Bodrum and mentioned that domestic interest has grown rapidly with ‘at least 5-10 people per day calling their office looking for a long-term rental’. He says it’s little surprise given the reasons already mentioned, and that Bodrum is only an hour away by plane.
