Located on the Turquoise Coast covering the Mediterranean coastline is the beautiful harbour town of Fethiye. The town is built over the ruins of the ancient city of Telmessos, whose ancient theatre is infact still located right in the city centre.

Fethiye is a busy working town with a fantastic marina and a harbour and is home to some of Turkey’s most beautiful beaches. The whole region is covered with high mountains forming the Taurus mountain range extending all along the coastline.

Fethiye town centre is great for shopping. There is the Erasta shopping mall which offers a variety of great stores, great eateries, plus entertainment for children. Every Tuesday there is a superb market selling a wide selection of locally grown fruit and vegetables, leather goods, dried herbs, spices and clothing.

You could also venture over to the old town of Paspatur lined with traditional style shops in the alleyways selling traditional Turkish goods such as handmade rugs, Turkish ceramics and glass mosaic lamps. The old town also offers great nightlife with it’s strip of bars and nightclubs. Seating areas line the streets, you can enjoy a drink and enjoy listening to some live music.

Fethiye offers a selection of terrific restaurants, but visiting the local Fish Market is a must. It is set in an enclosed square with stalls selling almost every type of fish. You choose your fish and then you decide which of the restaurants you would like to eat in. The fish monger will then prepare the fish ready to cook and it will be served to your table.

A walk along the harbour makes for a splendid evening. Here you will find plenty of fine waterfront restaurants offering a wide variety of dishes from steaks to traditional Turkish dishes. Perfect place to enjoy a galss of wine and some delicious cuisine while watching the sunset.

There are also many terrific historical sites and great places to visit in Fethiye.

A trip to the Fethiye Museum is a must. The museum is located off the main street in the town centre. It is filled with many interesting Lycian artifacts and artifacts from the Persians, Greeks and Roman times.

Another fantastic site to visit is the Lycian Rock Tombs. These tombs are carved into the cliffs overlooking the bay. It is a bit of an uphill climb but you can always see them by boat on a boat trip.

A visit to Kayakoy, is also a must. This place is also known as the Ghost village. It takes around 30 minutes on the local Dolmus from Fethiye. There is a small charge to enter the site of the Greek ruins, and you can see the fantastic sites of the school and churches and around 500 abandoned houses.

Another great place to visit is the stunning Butterfly Valley, which infact is only accessible via boat. The valley is the number one place for nature lovers and campers. Not only is the valley home to more than 80 species of butterflies, it also offers a soft sandy beach, cool clear waters, vibrant waterfalls and steep cliffs overlooking the sea, the view is incredible.

Something that makes Fethiye unqiue is that it is surrounded by a cluster of other popular holiday destinations. Each resort is incredibly different and yet each one is located just 15 minutes apart from each other.

There is the beauitful OluDeniz with its world famous and award winning Blue Lagoon. Spend the day relaxing on the beach and enjoy watching the paragliders take off from the Babdag mountains and fly above in the sky. This resort is truly one of the most breath-taking areas to see with its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.

We have the small village of Ovacik, adjoining the holiday resort of Hisaronu. Ovacik is a lovely friendly village spread out across the valley. It offers stunning scenic views, a variety of local amenities in the village centre and offers peaceful residential living.

The lovely town of Hisaronu is infact a neighbor to Ovacik. This resort is lively and bustling with lovely shops and great bars and restaurants, plus there is a market each Monday selling fresh fruit and veg and lots of leather and textile bargains.

You can always travel over into Calis, a lovely resort offering lovely shops, cafes, great bars and restaurants, beaches, as well as all other local amenities. The popular Calis Beach makes a great day out as it offers a great selection of water sports for all the family to enjoy. The beach also enjoys a children’s playground and a surf club.

Set in a gorgeous valley is Uzumlu. This pleasant village is best known for its production of wine from its numerous vineyards which surround it. The village is surrounded by forests and hillsides and has been able to retain all of its natural charm and character.
