Located on the South-West of Turkey, Bodrum is by far the most stunning regions on the Aegean Coast!!
Orginally named as Halicarnassus, Bodrum has since become an incredibly popular destination amongst tourists and even the rich and famous over the years. Bodrum oozes luxury and has become Turkey’s very own St Tropez to the stars.
Bodrum is a bustling resort that offers something for everyone and at any age. The resort is filled with many tourist attractions, stunning beaches and hidden bays, vibrant nightlife, fabulous shops and boutiques, fantastic bars and restaurants, three yacht lined marinas, ancient historic sites and much much more.
Many love Bodrum for its luxurious yet laid back feel. You can spend the day wandering through the cobbled streets that are lined with the beautiful traditional white washed houses, enjoy dining in 5 star restaurants while gazing out across the marina, go and explore some of the resorts amazing ancient sites or simply relax on the beautiful beach and enjoy the sound of the cool waves.
There are some terrific beaches located just outside Bodrum centre. There is Yashi Beach in Ortakent, a firm favourtie with Turkish holidaymakers. This beautiful beach offers soft golden sand and clear calm waters making it a perfect choice for those with children. You can relax on a sunlounger and gaze out at the beautiful view of Kos in the distance.
Next we have the glorious Yalikavak Beach which is very popular and is a favourite of families and couples. This half pebble, half sand beach offers many sunbeds and umbrellas, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine and there is an endless supply of food and drinks from the surrounding restaurants and bars.
Finally there is the wonderful Gumusluk Beach. This is a charming beach which can get rather crowded during the summer months but is much more peaceful outside the peak months and is definately worth a visit. Gumusluk beach offers golden sands, clear blue waters and the most stunning views. Fabulous restaurants and bars are backing the beach, the perfect place to sit and dine in the evening while enjoying the gorgeous sunset.
Besides the beaches, Bodrum offers some terrific sites, perfect for those history lovers. There is the Castle of St Peter which is very popular with the tourists. Back in the Ottoman period during the ruling of sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, the castle was given to Turkey and it had a mosque built inside. You can explore the castle’s halls which display exhibits of Bodrum’s Museum of Underwater Archaeology. There are plenty of artifacts to discover which include the Glass Wreck Hall which displays the 16 metre long ship that sunk back in 1025 AD.
There is also the Bodrum Amphitheatre. This historical site was built during the Hellenistic age and was used for theatrical productions. The remains are located on a hillside which overlooks the city of Bodrum.
Another great site are the Windmills which are set on a hillside between Bodrum and Gumbet overlooking the bay and across the Aegean. The Windmills go all the way back to the 18 century, they we not actually used until the 1970’s.
Bodrum is also a great place for shopping. Located west of the Bodrum Castle is the Milta Marina Shopping Centre which offers a variety of great boutiques selling a wide range of designer clothing. The Old Town situated behind the Castle of St Peter offers some lovely stylish shops and boutiques too. If you are looking for top brands but don’t want them come with a hefty price tag then head over to the Bodrum Market. Here you will find a superb selection of fake designer clothing, hand bags, leather and much more. You can look the real deal without breaking the bank.
Bodrum offers some of the best cuisine in Turkey. The resort is filled with fantastic eateries from waterfront restaurants to dining at more bustling night spots. There are some wonderful restaurants over in Turkbuku situated on the north side of the peninsula. There are also some nice cafes set along the waterfront in Bodrum town.
Along the Bodrum Peninsula are a number of small towns and villages mostly on the coast and with superb sea and island views.
There is the lovely village of Gulluk. What was once a small fishing village is now a great destination that attracts tourists from all over with its pretty traditional houses and an abundance of green surrounding nature. Gulluk does offers a wide variety of fish restaurants serving locally caught sea bass and bream, cafes and eating houses. Located in Gulluk Bay is the fabulous marina, Port Iasos located right in the heart of this truly beautiful area. Here you can enjoy the blue crystal waters, stunning bays and glorious hidden beaches.
We have also have the beautiful area of Gumusluk located on the south west coast of the peninsula. Gumusluk has a distinctly bohemian feel to it as well as a fairly developed real estate market. It is well known for its waterfront fish restaurants and its low-key coffee house culture.
There is also the stunning marina town of Yalikavak. This fabulous resort offers a wide range of houses and apartments including some of Bodrum’s most exclusive mansions nestled in the hills and with amazing bay views.
