Thomas Cook have recently confirmed what we all suspected, that more UK holiday makers are choosing to have their Summer holidays outside of the EU, with 48% of its package holiday bookings for outside of the bloc. Even though Spain, Cyprus and Greece are still highly popular amongst tourists, factors such as Brexit, political turmoil & a week pound against the Euro have contributed to this increase. This is highly evident in Turkey, which has seen the biggest growth in demand to become their second most popular destination after Spain, accounting for a quarter of their flight only bookings.
A recent survey carried out by Thomas Cook shows that taking an overseas summer holiday is still as important as ever and Will Waggott, the Chief of Tour Operations for Thomas Cook commented ´Britain may be living through unique times from a political perspective, however the desire to holiday abroad is still clear´. He went on to add that ´Turkey has already overtaken Greece to claim the number two spot of most desirable summer destinations´.
This is further good news for Turkey as it continues to invest heavily in itself, introducing new airport terminals and transport infrastructure to deal with demand, along with a surge in the construction of multi-purpose commercial & residential buildings. With its Sandy Beaches, Historical Connections, Salt Lakes, Fresh cuisine & friendly welcoming locals, it´s always been a hotspot, and with this new report & industry figures it looks like a strong and positive outlook for the times ahead.
