According to U.K.-based golf tourism service Par5 Escapes, 5 million of Europe’s 10 million golfers live in the U.K., making Turkey a crucial market for British golf tourism. Co-founder Abdullah Hazar told state- run Anadolu service that the country has become a favourite destination for British golfers.
Belek is a must for keen golfers
The top foreign visitors to Belek, a well-known golf resort in the southern Antalya province of Turkey, in 2023 were Russians, Germans, Brits, Kazakhs, and Poles. The number of British tourists visiting Belek in 2023 was 162,426—the most in the previous four years.
“Turkey, especially the Belek region, is a key market for British golf tourism,” Hazar stated, adding that international tournaments may be held at Belek’s top-notch golf courses. According to Hazar, British golfers seeking ideal conditions in the winter months are drawn to Antalya by its mild winters. British golf tourists tend to be large spenders, he noted. “For a seven-day golf vacation at upscale hotels, the average British golf tourist spends between 1,500 and 3,000 pounds [$1,850 to $3,700] on lodging and golf course fees in Belek,” he stated.
Golf courses in Turkey are most appealing
As similar packages in other regions of Europe are frequently scarcer and of inferior quality, British tourists find the all-inclusive idea appealing. “Turkey’s appeal is increased by the direct flights from several U.K. cities to Antalya,” he said. “We organize joint tournaments with golf clubs in the U.K. to promote Turkey, and participation of Turkish golf hotels in events like the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) is also crucial,” he stated.
