Where are the best beach towns in Turkey? Turkey is famed for its stunning beaches that dot across it vast coastline. Two of its most beautiful beach towns are amongst the top 10 European best beach towns.
Akyaka, Turkey
Akyaka is located near the mouth of the Azmak River on the glittering Bay of Gökova. It is one of
Turkey’s “cittaslows,” or slow cities, with a focus on sustainability and ecology. Behind the beach, traditional lokantas (small bistros) and cafes line a lattice of lanes covered in bougainvillea; at night, the eateries along the shore lay-up tables on the sand. From the little harbour, where seafood eateries line the verdant riverside and a shaded walking track leads into the countryside, boats wander up the Azmak. With a number of surfing schools along the extensive beach just outside of town, Akyaka is also the centre of kite-surfing in Turkey.
Göltürkbükü, Turkey
This glamorous merger of the two towns of Gölköy and Türkbükü, complete with a recently constructed public beach and decked beach clubs exuding a carefree, Côte d’Azur air, is Turkey’s equivalent of Saint- Tropez. Even though there is a lot going on, the area is still much quieter than neighbouring Bodrum. Arnavutköy has a very vibrant restaurant scene; reserve a table there for a decadent, fish-themed indulgence. Small pensions are located next to five-star hotels, and souvenir shops and designer boutiques coexist behind the beach. The frequent dolmuş (public bus) provides access to other settlements on the peninsula, such as the untouched Gümüşlük, which has wonderful fish eateries by the shore.
