Let’s take a look at Turkey’s popular winter destinations!!

One of Turkey’s most popular spots for the winter season is Uludag, located around 40 kilometres from Bursa in Istanbul. Uludag hosts a wide variety of options for winter tourism. Accommodation facilities and hotels with a capacity of around 5,000 beds are scattered in two areas close to the peak next to the 20 ski tracks. Already the snow has begun to cover the highest mountain in the Marmara region at 2,543 metres.

Next we have Palandoken located further to the East. This resort is very popular with tourists from Iran, Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Palandoken has much to offer. It features a terrific range of activities such as giant swings, zip lines and paragliding along with its snowboard courses and ski tracks. A popular activity here is night-time skiing.

Kartalkaya is located on the Northern side of Turkey. This resort features 25 ski tracks and hosts a total of five hotels with a capacity of 2,000 beds. Around 250,000 tourists came to the resort last winter and this year they are ready for more.

Located in central Turkey is Erciyes. This resort is well known for its fine snow which does not stick to the skis. Erciyes hosts 41 ski tracks and offers night-time skiing to its guests. More than 2 million holiday makers visited the resort last winter and it has been reported that this season is estimating around 3 million.

In the north-western province of Kocaeli is Kartepe. This ski resort has become very popular amongst tourists due it how close it is to the city of Istanbul, even though it has not as many ski tracks as other resorts.

Finally we have Ilgaz, known as a summer resort but also attracts holiday makers in the winter season. With the opening of a new airport in Kastamonu located just 40 km from the mountain more tourists are expected to arrive this season. Due too little snowfall so far, Ilgaz will be starting the season a little later than planned.
