I bet you didn’t know that Turkiye is the second biggest country for Motorbike Sales in Europe over the past three years, and the fifth highest country for the number of registered motorbikes in Europe. That would explain why the Motorbike Show in Istanbul was so popular in 2022, with higher numbers expected in 2023.
It’s taking place between the 27th and the 30th April 2023 at the Istanbul Expo Centre, with over 300 brands participating, showing off their models, accessories, spare parts, tyres and products to literally thousands of people across the three days. Not only will there likely be plenty of discounts on offer from the companies, but every visitor will also get the chance to meet with well known figures, of the motorcycle community who will present their experiences, route suggestions and technical information at the Motorcycle Academy Programme.
If you like two wheels’ but aren’t a motorcycle fan, then you are in luck – as there will also be plenty of experiences and exhibitors from the Bicycle community too. The bicycle market is particularly strong in Turkiye with over 110 countries importing Turkish Bicycles which include The Netherlands, Germany, France, Finland and the United Kingdom. Export sales for the first half of 2022 reached $68m USD ($137m USD in total for 2021) and the figures have been steadily increasing with 48% more exports in 2021 compared to 2020.
The 2022 exhibition had over 115 stands spread across three different halls, with a total of 290 brands represented from over 28 separate countries. It was visited by over 91,000 people in total, of which around 95% were from Turkiye and 5% were international.
In terms of the motorcycle market within Turkiye, there were 3,831,477 registered number of bikes between January to April 2022 which is actually up from 3,530,691 the previous year. Compare this to 2018 and you’ll see really good growth, when there were 3,211,328 registered bikes. For 2022, around 48% of motorcycles were imported, 29.5% were domestic and the rest were from other areas. Up until September of 2022, there were 258,613 bikes sold in Turkiye, a good increase when compared to 2021, and as people look for greener alternatives, there was also a good uplift in the sales of electric motorbikes which hit a grand total of 136,405 in 2022 (up until September). Electric motorbike sales have also increased rapidly since they were commercially introduced with only 42,349 sold in 2019. The event itself is run by Messe Frankfurt, who organize trade events in over 40 different locations worldwide, attracting over 25,000 exhibitors and 830,000 industry professionals.
