Numbers have increased once again for seats on the Eastern Express. The train which links the capital of Ankara with the eastern province of Kars has already sold around 10,000 tickets for the upcoming winter months.
The Eastern Express departs from Ankara and journeys through provinces such as Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan, Erzurum. The journey takes 24 hours and 30 minutes.
This fantastic trainline features couchette coaches, seating coaches and sleeping coaches, as well as toilets and a minibar. For decades the 24 hour sleeper service has been running and now thanks to an increase in popularity extra carriages have been added.
Back in 2017 around 320,000 passengers took the journey, this was a 40 percent increase from the year before. The trainline has been very successful for the past few years thanks to Turkey’s instagram users as social media has made this train journey into a worldwide sensation. People have been posting pictures and videos of their experiences on this wonderful scenic journey.
The best time to take the Eastern Express is during winter or late autumn. The service does run all year, but passengers prefer these months as they can sit back and enjoy the snowy landscape. It is a turly beautiful site.
