The 57th Tour of Turkey begins on the 10th April and will end on 17th April. A total of 175 cyclists of 25 teams from 14 different countries will be taking part in the race. The race will start from Bodrum and will finish in Istanbul.
The Turkish Cycling Federation has been organising the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey since 1963. Back then it was know as the ‘Marmara Tour.’ It was only in 1965 when the tour gained international status. Since 2008 the tour reaches millions all across the world using live and recorded broadcasts through both national and international channels in over 120 countries.
This year the Canakkale 1925 Bridge will be part of the 1.308 kilometre route. TBF President Emin Muftuoglu stated to the Demiroren News Agency that “The country will be able to promote the Canakkale 1915 Bridge to the world with the help of this organization.”
Muftuoglu stated the he had in fact passed the 1915 bridge last week during a promotion event and said that “it was an enormous feeling one should go and feel there.”
The route on the first day is between Bodrum and Kusadasi. Cyclists must reach Izmir’s Alacati district on the 11th April and there will be a finish line in the Karsiyaka district of Izmir on the 12th April. On the 13th April the cyclists must then head to Mount Spil in Manisa. By the sixth day of the race, the cyclists will pass the Canakkale 1915 Bridge and will then end the race on the 17th April in Istanbul.
