Surfers flocked to the public beach in the Marmaris region on the 2nd Feb due to the high winds. Onlookers caught a glimpse of surfers enjoying the high winds by riding the waves and enjoying other water-sports like kite-boarding. The 50 kilometre winds lasted for around an hour.
An onlooker even took a video of the surfers and uploaded it on social media stating that it was a “Fantastic sports and fantastic science.”
Locals call the winds “anchovy storm”. The reason behind the name is that each year between the 2nd and 5th February the fish tend to migrate from the Black Sea over to the Marmara Sea due to these high powered winds.
