Premier Turkish Tech & Aviation Festival Arrives in TRNC

This week, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will host the inaugural Teknofest, the country’s biggest defense, aviation, and technology festival, which will bring together dozens of teams and tech aficionados for competitions, air shows, and workshops.

On May 1, Teknofest TRNC, organized by the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation), the Industry and Technology Ministry, and the TRNC Presidency, will welcome guests at the former Ercan Airport in Lefkoşa (Nicosia).

The event, which has previously taken place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and several Turkish cities, will continue until May 4. The Anadolu Agency (AA) reported on Monday that over 47,000 competitors from 22 different nations applied to compete in this year’s Teknofest in the TRNC. Afghanistan, Germany, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Burundi, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Mali, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, and Uzbekistan were among the nations that applied in addition to Turkey and the TRNC.

1,083 team members and 268 teams in all made it to the Teknofest TRNC finals. Thirteen subcategories and six main categories will be used for the competitions. “Social Innovation,” “Flying Car Simulation,” “Tourism Technologies,” “Teknofest Robolig Blue Homeland,” “Teknofest TRNC Research Project,” and the Teknofest Drone Championship are among the competitions that will be held at the festival.

Elvan Kuzucu Hıdır, the chairperson of the T3 Foundation, told AA that the TRNC and Turkey have a long-standing kinship and that they hope to deepen it through science and technology. Hıdır underlined that they want the “National Technology Initiative” concept to be embraced not just in Turkey but also in neighbouring and friendly areas.

“In this regard, in 2022, we organized Teknofest outside of Türkiye for the first time in Azerbaijan. Holding Teknofest in the brotherly land of the TRNC after Azerbaijan is part of this important strategy. We believe that the TRNC is an important and meaningful stop for us. They want the young to have a pleasant and full festival experience in the TRNC, he continued, adding that competitions and other activities are waiting for them at the festival site”

Hıdır also emphasized their conviction that Teknofest would convey a powerful message from the TRNC to the globe. “Friendly nations and the Turkic world in particular are uniting over science and technology. We intend to establish a platform where young people from Teknofest will develop their own technologies and spread important messages around the globe,” she said.

The TRNC Teknofest event will offer guests a variety of activities, including a planetarium, stage shows, an exhibition of air vehicles, and the “first flight” experience for kids taking their first flight, andconcerts. Additionally, SOLOTÜRK, the Turkish Stars, F-4 fighter jets, Atak helicopters, Hürkuş, the Bayraktar TB2, and Akıncı drones will all perform flight exhibitions throughout the festival.

Leading Turkish defense companies, such as STM and Aselsan, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, will also showcase their latest technologies, models, and products to tourists and young people during Teknofest. There is no admission fee to Teknofest TRNC. To obtain entry, guests must first register on Teknofest’s website. Although children under the age of seven are exempt from registration requirements, each participant must have their own ticket.

The festival grounds will be open for visitors to enter and exit between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
