Night time visits at Ephesus Ancient City

This year, for the very first time, night time museum visits are being introduced at the historic Ephesus Ancient City, with visiting times being extended until midnight.

The aim of the night time visits is for visitors to get the opportunity to see and explore the ancient city in a different kind of atmosphere and now the 2,300 year old city can be viewed after sunset thanks to the new renewed lighting works.

A meeting to introduce the extended visiting times was held at the Ephesus Archaeological Site. In attendance was the Izmir Governor Suleyman Elban.

Governor Elban stated at the meeting that “The concept of night time museum visits is being implemented for the first time this year, especially in open areas, archaeological sites, and historical cities. Ephesus was the first location to start. There is a great demand for historical sites like Ephesus, both from our country and abroad. However, unfortunately, the capacity of these sites is limited. Therefore, extending the visiting hours to later times was necessary, but daylight was insufficient. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has prepared a serious lighting project here. We have now extended the visiting hours at Ephesus, which we refer to as ‘night time museum visits,’ until midnight.”
