The new canal Istanbul route has been revealed. The route will cut through Istanbul starting at Kucukcekmece, the coastal district, and will run throught to the Sazlidere Dam, which is north of the city and will then join the Black Sea north of Durusu.
The route will aim to ease to congestion on Bosphorus Strait, as it is one of the busiest waterways in the world used by a thousand vessels per week. While easing traffic and increasing vessel safety is the main priority, other reasons for interest in the project is the investment potential, as the canal will be running through Kucukcekmece and Avcilar this will boost the profile of properties along the route.
The project is said to be costing around $17 billion and is aiming to be completed by the year 2023.
