This summer we will see the launch of a new ferry to link Greece to Turkey.
The governments in Ankara and Athens have apparently been negotiating for years, but now finally a decision has been made which will see the new daily ferry route connecting Greece with Turkey beginning June 2nd.
The ferry will link Lavrio located 25 miles southeast of Athens with Cesme which is situated 55 miles west of Turkey’s third city Izmir. It has been reported the voyage will take seven hours.
There will be a free connecting bus service running in conjunction with the ferry offering a wide variety of connections. There will be connections available from Athens and Patras to Lavrio and connections in Turkey will run from Cesme to Kusadasi and Bodrum.
Editor Chris Woodcock of the European Rail Timetable has stated that it is “a very welcome development” and has said that “it would greatly expand horizons.”
