Lake Bafa in Turkey sees water levels improve after drought ends

Lake Bafa improves after drought ends

Lake Bafa, a vital breeding and wintering ground for 261 bird species, including endangered ones, has seen a remarkable recovery in its water level. Previously, the lake’s water level had dropped by about 40 meters (131.23 feet) due to the drought over the summer months. However, recent rainfall has replenished the lake, restoring it to its previous levels and submerging areas where the water had receded.

The lake is experiencing a remarkable revival as rising water levels allow the algae and mud deposits to clear, rejuvenating its natural ecosystem. The once-dry areas now filled with water have become a thriving habitat for migratory birds, breathing new life into the lake’s surroundings.

Lake Bafa, nestled on the south-western coast of Turkey, is a breath-taking natural haven celebrated for its unique beauty, rich biodiversity, and captivating historical significance. Designated as a wetland of international importance, this serene lake offers a sanctuary for countless bird species, rare plants, and wildlife, making it a paradise for nature lovers and eco-tourists. Surrounding the lake, visitors can also explore ancient ruins.

With its stunning landscapes, tranquil waters, and cultural treasures, Lake Bafa is a must-visit destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in nature and history.
