A new telecommunications tower has been introduced in the city of Istanbul and is the tallest structure in the city standing at 369 metres (1,211 ft). The tower is located on Kucuk Camlica Hill on the Asian side of the city boasting a very unique view over Istanbul.
Construction for the tv and radio began back in 2015. There is a two storey restaurant on the 39th and 40th floor as well as an observation deck on the 33rd and 34th floor enjoying a 360 degree view from the Asian to the European side of Istanbul. There will also be cafes, exhibition spaces and panoramic elevators located on two sides of the tower will allow visitors to see Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks.
The tower is expected to bring in around 4 million tourists, if not more, on an annual basis.
During the inauguration ceremony President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated “I pray that our Çamlica Tower, which will serve television, radio and media organizations as well as communication operators, will be beneficial for our country and our city. We have successfully implemented this project, which will set an example not only in our country but also in the whole world.”
The tower has been able to put an end to the visual pollution in Camlica due to dozens of giant and outdated TV antennaes being scattered all over the hillside. Once the construction began most antennaes were removed.
The President is planning on using the same model throughout Turkey.
