November 17th saw Istanbul’s new grand Airport win the award in the best ‘digital transformation’ category. The news was announced by the Annual Airport Council International (ACI).
The judges awarded the Aiport due to its ability to adopt a ‘clear digitalization strategy with a wide range of technological solutions in place to create a seamless travel experience and modernize airside operations in line with the vision of a digital airport.’
Since it began to operate in June, Istanbul Airport has become one of the largest and most important Airports around the world. The Airport has around 90 annual passenger capacity, though it has been said that it is expected to serve up to 200 million passengers per year once all four phases are complete by the year 2028.
Sabiha Gokcen, Istanbul’s second airport, was voted in the ’25-40 million passengers’ category but lost to Lisbon Airport.
Both Airports have been highly praised for there on going efforts to maintain all health and safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic.
