On the 5th November Airport Operator Firm IGA awarded Istanbul Airport with “Airport of the Year.” The airport was chosen by a “Readers Choice 2019” survey which was conducted by the International Airport Review magazine.
Airports such as Heathrow, Sydney in Australia and Changi in Singapore where up against Istanbul but lost out. The survey stated that Istanbul Airport outperformed its competitors and was very deserving of first place.
According to Kadri Samsunlu, the CEO of IGA, he said that the “airport gained a significant momentum to be a global hub with its unique architecture, strong infrastructure and high-technology” and that “we aim to bring more awards to Turkey by reaching our targets in the coming periods”.
The first phase of Istanbul Airport opened back in October 2018 and took over the air traffic from Ataturk Airport. Once all four phases have been completed it has been reported that the airport will then serve around 200 million passengers per year. All phases should be completed by the year 2028.
