It has been announced that the Turkish Grand Prix will be returning this year and will be held at the Istanbul park in October. The event has been planned to race around the Intercity Istanbul Park after it was announced that the Marina Bay race could not go ahead.
It was earlier this year that the Turkish Grand Prix was removed from the calendar due to the travel restrictions, but now with things starting to get back to normal Formual 1 have stated that they are confident that they will be able to travel to the race under strict safety protocols.
Formula 1 have stated that over 44,000 tests have been carried out with 27 positive cases at a rate of 0.06%, with most coming during the earlier part of the season. It has also been said that a significant proportion of the Formula 1 community have been vaccinated and that they are confident that they all will be by the end of the Summer.
President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali stated “We are delighted to be coming back to Turkey to Intercity Istanbul Park circuit. We hope to see another fantastic race again in one of the best tracks in the world.”
Domenicali also said “We want to thank the Intercity Istanbul Park management and Mr. Vural Ak for his personal efforts to make this event to happen. We have shown that we can continue to adapt and there is huge interest in our sport and the hope from many locations to have a Grand Prix.”
