According to a study on Tuesday, about 48,000 ships have stopped at Turkish Ports in the first nine months of this year, the most in the previous seven years. According to a report by Anadolu Agency (AA) that cited data from the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, there were 47,630 ships docking at ports between January and September.
According to the research, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of cruise ships calling at Turkish Ports has continued to rise. This figure was 55,448 in 2018. Ships visiting at ports fell below 40,000 during the epidemic, but then increased to 43,164 in 2022 and 45,605 in 2023.
Approximately 47,630 ships called at Turkish Ports in the first nine months of this year, up 2.8% from 46,317 during the same period last year. This statistic is the most ship calls in the previous seven years. There were 723.2 million gross tons of ships stopping at ports during this time. Of these ships, 30,853 flew foreign flags and 16,777 flew Turkish flags.
In the first nine months of this year, there was an increase in the quantity of automobiles moved on international Ro-Ro shipping lines. Between January and September of this year, the number of automobiles transported by these vessels increased by 4.2%, from 519,354 to 541,003. During the first nine months of 2025, 269,620 cars entered and 271,383 departed on international Ro-Ro routes.
The majority of cars that traveled these international routes were shipped to and from ports in Europe. 391,292 of the more than 540,000 cars transported on Ro-Ro ships between January and September were moved via European routes like Marseille, Valencia, and Trieste. 65,630 cars were shipped between Turkish ports and Black Sea ports like Tuapse, Novorossiysk, and Constanta during that time.
