Bursa, which is situated in Northwest Turkey and is the second most populous city in the Marmara region, is home to Bursa Zoo which recently welcomed two new lion cubs to its increasing family of animals. Thursday finally saw them taking their first few steps outside and though both of the 3.5-month-old cubs were slightly nervous at first it didn’t take long before they started to explore & play in their new surroundings.

The eventual aim of course is that they will join the other Zoo’s baby lions, but in order to get them used to being outside and being around the other animals, the keepers introduce them to a reserve area first, just to be cautious. Önder Sevim who is the Head Caretaker at the Zoo mentioned that ‘they will spend around a month in the reserve area before they join the other four – two of which are females and two of which are males.’

This isn’t the first time that the Zoo has raised baby lions having already done it three times before, but that doesn’t change the excitement that each new cub can bring to the staff and the visitors at the Zoo. Sevim was also keen to point out that the cubs get provided with everything they need in the Zoo which includes a diet rich in protein and milk.

Starting from humble beginnings the Zoo now has around 1023 animals, is a full member of the European Association of Zoos. Built on an area consisting of over 206,000 sqm it offers 11 ponds, 2,000 trees, 150,000 plants & plenty of visitor facilities.
