According to a top official on Sunday, Antalya Airport, Turkey’s most popular tourist destination, would double its yearly passenger capacity from 35 million to 82 million with the opening of new terminal facilities later this week. According to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend the ceremony on April 12 to officially open the new facilities.
“The current international terminal, which is 90,143 square meters, will be expanded to 224,000 square meters, and the domestic terminal, which is 36,859 square meters, will be expanded to 75,000 square meters. In this way, we are increasing our airport’s yearly capacity to 82 million,” Uraloğlu stated in a written statement that the ministry issued.
Speaking on the Antalya Airport expansion, the minister stated that new expansion had been added, increasing the airport’s 108 aircraft parking spaces to 176.
Both the General Aviation Terminal and the current VIP Terminal were increased from 1,200 to 2,800 square meters and 690 to 2,000 square meters, respectively. He also mentioned the opening of the recently built 2,000 square meter State Guest House, 5,000 square meter DHMI Service Building, and accommodations.
Antalya Airport continues to operate fully
Uraloğlu added that the airport continues to operate continuously by implementing all construction measures outlined in national and international legislation, and that the construction did not have an impact on regional transportation or tourism activities. He added that last year, the airport handled about 40 million people on both local and foreign flights.
The main center for visitors from dozens of nations that visit Antalya and its well-known neighbourhoods, like Kaş, Kemer, and Alanya, each year is Antalya Airport. Along with Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, it is one of the busiest airports in the nation.
The airport extension project is very important for increasing the number of visitors to the city and enhancing Antalya’s potential. According to Uraloğlu, Antalya Airport handled 188,748 aircraft and over 33 million passengers on international flights in 2024, in addition to 45,351 aircraft and 6.24 million passengers on local flights.
