What is Fethiye in Turkey like?
On Turkey’s southwest coast, the town of Fethiye has a lovely harbour. Because of the magnificent colour of the sea, it is frequently referred to as the Turquoise Coast. It was constructed atop the ruins of Telmessos, an ancient city, whose theatre is still visible in the heart of the modern city.
Except for Fethiye, the entire area is covered in tall mountains that make up the Taurus Mountain range. These mountains run the length of the coastline and are over 2000 metres high. Fethiye, a traditional town, is located at the base of these mountains, overlooking a safe bay.
What is Fethiye like?
Around 75,000 people live in the Turkish city of Fethiye, which is located on the Aegean Sea. It is currently one of Turkey’s most popular vacation spots. Fethiye is a bustling commercial centre with a wonderful marina and a harbour. Some of Turkey’s most stunning beaches border it. There are many restaurants there, as well as nightlife. A great fish market is located right in the centre of the city, and it is a very well-liked location to eat in the evening.
Fethiye Museum
In Fethiye, there are lots of wonderful locations to visit. The Fethiye Museum is a must-see destination and is home to a wide variety of fascinating Persian, Greek, and Roman artefacts.
Butterfly Valley
Butterfly Valley is an additional wonderful location. It can only be reached by boat. Numerous butterfly species can be found here. It makes for a fantastic day trip, especially for kids.
Fethiye markets
Every Tuesday, a fantastic market takes place in the heart of Fethiye. A wide variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables, leather goods, dried herbs, spices, and clothes are available at the market.
Tasyaka
There is a mall nearby in the Tasyaka region as well. It is a two-story, contemporary centre. It’s fantastic for shoppers, including designer and shoe stores. Additionally, there is a grocery and a food court with a variety of fast food restaurants.
Paspatur
The lanes in Paspatur’s old town are filled with traditional-style stores, creating a charming atmosphere. Selling handmade rugs, Turkish ceramics, glass mosaic lamps, and other traditional Turkish products. In Fethiye, there are several fascinating historical sites to see and explore.
Kayakoy
A trip to Kayakoy is essential. The Ghost Village, also called by that name, is accessible from Fethiye in about 30 minutes by local dolmus. For a nominal fee, visitors can access the Greek ruins, where they can marvel at the beautiful schools, churches, and 500 or so abandoned homes. Visit one of the restaurants for a classic meal and a refreshing drink for refreshments.
Lycian Rock Tombs
The Lycian Rock Tombs are yet another outstanding location to explore. These graves have been carved into the cliffs above the bay. Although it is a bit of a hike, you can always see them from a boat when on a boat tour.
Fethiye Harbour
Take a stroll down the harbour, where you’ll come across many elegant waterfront eateries serving everything from steaks to traditional Turkish fare. Ideal for a romantic dinner for two while taking in the breathtaking sunsets.
Fethiye’s Fish Market
Is a must-see; it is situated in a square that is enclosed and has stalls selling practically all kind of fish. After selecting your fish, you choose the restaurant you want to eat at. The fish will then be prepared by the fishmonger and brought to your table to be cooked. Typically, it comes with a platter of mixed meze, a salad, and fresh bread.
Fethiye’s nightlife
Is concentrated in Paspatur, an area of the old town that has a strip of bars and clubs. Later in the evening, when seating areas line the street and live music is being played, the strip becomes very crowded. The ambiance is wonderful.
Fethiye is bordered by a special collection of other well-known vacation spots that are all wonderfully distinct but barely 15 minutes away.
CALIS – offers a lot. Along with all other local facilities, there are excellent stores, cafes, fantastic pubs and restaurants, and beaches. Calis Beach offers a wide range of water sports for the whole family to enjoy, and there are also plenty of sun loungers available if you just want to kick back and relax in the sunlight. A surf club and a children’s playground are also available at the beach.
HISARONU – is close by Ovacik, a tiny settlement. With wonderful stores, bars, and restaurants, the resort is hopping and buzzing. On Mondays, a market is held here where you may get lots of great leather and textile deals in addition to fresh fruit and vegetables. From Hisaronu, you can take a local bus all the way to Oludeniz.
OLU DENIZ – the renowned resort with the acclaimed Blue Lagoon, where you can watch paragliders takes off from the mountain and land directly on the beach. This magnificent resort is undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous places to visit with its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.
OVACIK – is a little town that borders the Hisaronu vacation spot. Ovacik is a charming, hospitable community spanning the valley. It offers breathtaking natural scenery, a wide range of neighbourhood amenities in the village centre, and tranquil residential living. The local Dolmus minibuses, which run every five minutes throughout the season, make it simple to get to the bustling Hisaronu village centre in a matter of minutes.
UZUMLU – It is situated in a stunning valley surrounded by hills and forests. Numerous vineyards surround the settlement of Uzumlu, which is known for producing fine wine. The village has managed to keep all of its original beauty and personality. The distance between Fethiye and the modern town is only 20 minutes by car.

SARIGERME
And what has Sarigerme got to offer?
What was once the ancient city of Pisilis, Sarigerme is now a small, peaceful village located on Turkey’s southwest coast in the Ortaca district offering a charming and laid back atmosphere attracting European holidaymakers every year.
Sarigerme offers a straightforward and decent climate through the year, with hotter temperatures in the summer months of July and August reaching around 26 degrees and cooler temperatures in the winter months of January and February at around 10 degrees.
Sarigerme town
Sarigerme offers a village centre with traditional shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and bars. There are also other amenities like a post office, a chemist, a hairdressers, ATMs and a taxi ranks. The village is usually pretty quiet, but in the evenings, especially during the summer months, the place can become lively when the visitors come out of their hotels.
Sarigerme Beach
Sarigerme is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Sarigerme Beach is great place for all the family. This “Blue Flag” beach offers a 6 km stretch of white sand and plenty of pine trees for shade. Its crystal clear water is perfect and safe for enjoying a swim, especially with young children. There are also plenty of water sport activities available which are sectioned off for safety. The beach is set within a nature reserve so there is a small fee to pay on entry which goes to the services and upkeep of the area. There is also parking available which is free. There are facilities available at the beach which includes a children’s park, a picnic area, a café as well as changing facilities.
Getting around the area
Local Dolmus’s run every 30 minutes through Sarigerme village and can take you to the beach, to the towns of Ortaca and Dalaman and all other nearby villages.

What’s on in Fethiye / Sarigerme throughout 2024!!
Oludeniz Spring Meeting Festival – 17th April till 19th April – To celebrate the beginning of Spring, and all things adventure, the resort of Oludeniz comes alive with a fun filled two day event consisting of a variety of outdoor activities such as water-sports, mountain biking, hiking, beach games and more. There will also be live music performances too, plus you will also be able to enjoys watching para-gliders take to the skies over the resort.
Uzumlu Mushroom and Dastar Festival – 19th April till 21st April – This event is held every year to promote mushrooms, especially the morel mushroom which is grown throughout the region. The event also celebrates dastar, the silk fabric in the village. The festival enjoys food demonstrations, wine tasting, traditional dancing, as well as music from local bands.
Fethiye International Culture and Arts Festival – 1st May – A spectacular event filled with music, dance and theatrical performances to celebrate art, culture and diversity. There will also be workshops, exhibitions, as well as an international food fair where you can taste different foods and flavours from all around the world.
International Fethiye Folk Dance and Music Festival – 21st September till 25th September – Musical groups from all over come to participate in this annual festival. There will be performances from choirs, bands and orchestras as well as dance groups from all different genres.
Oludeniz Air Games – 23rd October till 27th October – The Air Games are held every year marking the end of the summer season. Pilots from all over the world compete in a range of adrenalin pumping attractions: hang-gliding, base-jumping, skydiving and acrobatic paragliding.
Ferries connecting Greece and Turkey
Fethiye to Rhodes: The Dodecanese Flying Dolphins ferry service offers trips from Fethiye to Rhodes seven days per week. The crossing takes about 90 minutes.
Chios, the fifth-largest Greek Island, is only a short ferry crossing away from Cesme if you are staying there. The trip takes 70 minutes and operates three to four times per day during the summer and three times per week during the winter. With its little mediaeval villages, old castles, and fascinating local culture, Chios is the ideal location for exploration.

MONDAY: Fresh vegetables, home items, jewellery, and clothing are sold right next to the village’s major roundabout.
CIFTLIK
THURSDAY: The market is located in the heart of the community and primarily sells produce, along with some furniture and clothing.
PARLANGIC
SUNDAY: Although this market is modest, it offers a wide variety of goods.
CALIS / GUNLUKBASI
SUNDAY: This market, which lies outside of Calis, sells everything and is renowned for having the greatest pancakes.

The Fountains of Fethiye
The area next to the new town square offers the best view of the fountains. When there is dance and music that casts a wonderful glow over the surroundings. Go to the park to see the fountain shows.
Ruins of Tios
Hire a car and explore the Tios ruins for a day away from the beach, complete with stunning views of the Xanthos Valley and a quick trip to Saklikent. The 50-minute drive from Fethiye to Tios is worthwhile for this.

Views of the entire Fethiye marina harbour are available from the tomb of Amyntas in the Lycian Rock Tombs in Fethiye, which are breathtaking.
