The International Ballet Festival is being held at Bodrum Castle from the 3rd August until the 21st August.
The festival will open with “Frida” which is a two act modern dance performed by the Mersin State Opera and Ballet. The production tells the story of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, who at an early age is diagnosed with severe health problems but manages her struggles through painting.
Guests of the festival will be the Georgian Sukhishvili National Ballet Ensemble, they will be taking to the stage on the 6th and 7th August. This world famous ensemble have been performing since 1945 in front of over 50 million viewers in over 90 countries. The ensemble’s performance will be based on war, heroism and love stories of the Georgian people.
A production of “Romeo and Juliet” will be performed by the Izmir State Opera and Ballet on the 10th August and has been choreographed by Turkey’s award winning choreographers Volkan Ersoy and Armagan Davran.
The second act in the festival will be the “Scheherazade” ballet. This production had its premiere in Antalya and will be performed by the Antalya State Opera and Ballet on the 14th August. It has been stated that “Scheherazade” is one of the most important peices of the festival due to its musical arrangements and impressive expression. The performace will tell a story of the love between Behram, the son of Sultan Shah Levend and Zuhre, the daughter of the famous merchant Mahmud and the evil plans of Zahara, the daughter of Vezir Ebubekir who is trying and stop their love.
The Ballet Festival will also be seeing the world famous Aida Gomez and Dance Group burn the flamenco fire. The Aida Gomez Dance Ensemble will be taking to the stage on the 17th and 18th August with their production “Carmen”. The ensemble was founded and directed by Aida Aguda Gomez one of the leading dancers of the Spanish National Ballet and a master of Flamenco.
To end the festival the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet’s Modern Dance Group Istanbul (MDTist) will perform a ballet act “Giselle”.
