About Altinkum – Turkey

Altinkum – Turkey

On Turkey’s southwest coast is a resort called Altinkum, also known as Didim. The two names were created when Didim’s small town centre and Altinkum’s little village combined to form one district. But Didim is more inland, whereas Altinkum traditionally refers to the coastal regions. Translation of the term “Altinkum” is “golden sands.”

Altinkum offers three outstanding beaches, but the lively bazaar, fascinating history, and nightlife are also major draws.

Although there are other little coves and bays around the region, the Main Beach, Second Beach, and Third Beach are the three main beaches. Scuba diving is popular there, and Second Beach is great for water sports. While Main Beach is the busiest, especially at the height of summer, this is likely due to its location in the middle of Altinkum’s beachside promenade.

The harbour, where doughnut boats, banana boats, and glass-bottomed boats may be found, is located at the end of the seafront. You may enjoy boat tours to Kos and along the coast.

It takes 5 minutes to walk to the smaller Second Beach. Third Beach, which is in the opposite direction and is popular with families for its shallow waters, is nearby.

Ataturk Boulevard in Altinkum

The route that parallels the waterfront links Didim with Altinkum. In addition to the Temple of Apollo, this contemporary town boasts a sizable commercial centre and a Saturday market. Even now just two of the 122 original columns remain; this was one of the largest temples in Ancient Greece and is still a striking sight.

Shopping in Altinkum

On the main road, there are three large supermarkets that sell both domestic and foreign commodities. Due to the low pricing on organic fruit and vegetables, there are two weekly markets that are held on Wednesday and Saturday.

The Main beach area is close to the Didim shopping centre. Didim’s central business district is home to stores, quaint eateries, and offices. Additionally, it serves as Altinkum’s primary commercial hub. Stores catering to local requirements rather than those of tourists. Additionally, it provides a window into Turkish daily life.

What are the restaurants in Altinkum like?

Altinkum has a wide variety of dining establishments. There are traditional Turkish restaurants (lokantas), but there are also foreign, Chinese, Indian, and Italian options to suit any palate. A number of the restaurants also provide evening activities including games, quizzes, and karaoke. There are family-friendly bars in the Second Beach region. With so many bars and eateries, Dolphin Square is the perfect place for a few drinks. Later on, a younger audience emerges to check out the nightclubs.

How do you get around Altinkum?

Altinkum does not require a car to get about. From the main town and all of the coastal regions, local buses (dolmus) run. Buses also go hourly to Soke, which is close by, and make stops at Mavisehir and the Apollo Temple. The otogar runs bus lines to the majority of locations in Turkey for lengthy distances. Izmir and Bodrum Airports don’t have direct bus lines; however inexpensive shuttle and private transports are offered by nearby tour operators.

Bodrum, from which it takes around an hour to transfer, is the nearest airport to use.
