Cycling Fever Hits as The World Cycling Tour Arrives!

October 9th to October 14th sees the annual Presidential Cycling Tour sweep through Turkey, which started in 1963 by the Turkish Cycling Federation, and has been an International event on the World Stage since 1965.

This year 20 teams raced across the 950km tour, complete with 6 stages, with the first stage taking part in Konya which happens to be the home of the world-renowned Poet Rumi. Broadcast to more than 120 countries, it´s the world´s only tour to connect two continents, via the Eurasia tunnel, Europe & Asia. This was the 54th tour, and with an increasing audience both live at the race and on the worldwide television network, it reached more than 484 million households with over 284 hours of airtime.

Starting from Konya the route took the cyclists via the Mediterranean & Aegean coast, from Alanya to Antalya, Fethiye to Marmaris, Marmaris to the Bulbul Mountain in Selcuk, Selcuk to Manisa, and Bursa to Istanbul.

Famous riders include Maximiliano Richeze of Quick-Step Floors, Sam Bennett of Bora-Hansgrohe, Jean-Pierre of BMC Racing, Diego Ulissi, Kristijan Durasek, Fernando Gaviria & John Degenkolb. Turkey will be represented by Ahmet Orken (2011 European Track Champion) & Onur Balkan.
