For the second time in a row Istanbul has again won the Airport of the Year Award. The award, which is one of the most greatest honours in the aviator industry, was presented at the Air Transport Awards. Over 4,000 readers and leading executives of the avaition industry took part in the voting resulting in the selected winners of the awards.

Over the past years winners of the competition included Singapore Changi Airport, as well as airports in Lisbon, Doha and Dubai. Istanbul is only the second airport to win twice in a row after the Singapore Changi Airport.

The CEO of Istanbul Airport’s operator IGA Kadri Samsunlu said that the “valuable award for the second time, leaving behind many airports in the world, is the biggest proof of how accurate an investment Istanbul Airport was.” Samsunlu also mentioned that operations managed to continue without slowing down despite the pandemic.

Samsunlu went onto say that “Despite being a young institution, we have succeeded in rising to the position of the most resilient airport in the world, with our agile structure, our infrastructure in line with technological developments and our efforts that steer the aviation sector.”

Kostas Iatrou, Air Transport News Executive Director and CEO, said that “Istanbul Airport has shown remarkable resilience and efficiency in the last two years and I congratulate them for this achievement.”
