The Temple of Zeus being restored to its former glory!!

A Turkish excavation team is currently working on restoring the anicent Temple of Zeus. The historic site is located is the Euromos in the southwestern province of Mugla.

The team is being lead by head archaeologist Abuzer Kizil from Mugla Sitki Kocman University. The team have managed to uncover artifacts at the site according to Anadolu Agency and are hoping to uncover much more of the historical remains.

Kizil has said that “Euromos is one the important cities of Caria” and that its “location makes it among the luckiest ancient cities in Anatolia.”  He also stated that the temple which is built to honor ancient Greek God Zeus “is one of the best-preserved in all of Turkish Anatolia.”

The preliminary work carried out on Euromos has been completed. The team are now waiting on approval on the budget for the resurrection of the temple. Construction for the ampitheatre will continue for another year or possibly longer, still the site will be great to visit especially during the summer months.

Kizil has stated that “once complete, the temple will be restored to its former glory and become one of Turkey’s most visited sites.”
