Istanbul’s chance to host the 2020 Champions League Final was cancelled due to the corona virus a few weeks go, with UEFA deciding on a mini tournament format to take place in Portugal, and the Europa League Final in the same format in Germany.
The reason is to complete in a quicker format, in a country not hit as hard as some of its European neighbours. A review of whether any fans will view the finals will be taken much nearer the time as the pace of the pandemic is ever changing. Both finals will take place late in August.
However a decision has now been made to move the 2021 Final back to Istanbul and the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, a venue most Liverpool fans will always remember as a special place.
